Abstract
To determine age-associated differences in specific activities of intestinal epithelial enzymes and hepatic antioxidant and drug metabolizing onzymes, twenty four male ICR mice(n=8) were sacrificed at the age of 2wk(pre-weanling), 5wk, and 48wk,
From
the result obtained here, the specific activities of alkaline phosphatase and lactate dehydrogenase in the duodenum of the small intestine were significantly lower in mice aged 2wk compared with those of the others, also regional gradient along
the
length of the small intestine was remarkable. The mucosal tissues from 48wk old mice had significantly higher specific activities of glutathionine -S-transferase, sucrase, and maltase than did tissues from the other ages. The activities of
hepatic
cytosolic superoxide dismutase, glutathionine peroxidase, and lipid peroxidation were not affected by age, whereas activity of glutathionine -S-transferase in mice aged 48wk was enhanced compared with those of mice aged 2wk and 5wk. It is
concluded
from
the resutls presented here that the development 2 intestinal epithelial enzymes and hepatic antioxidant and drug metabolizing enzymes is markedly affected by age in ICR mice.
